Carol Melo
was a member of the Saad Soccer Club from 1992 to 1997 and took part in the teams many great successes. Melo helped lead her team to two consecutive Champinas U-19 Region championships as well as winning the Sao Paulo U-19 state championship in 1995 and 1996. Melo's team also took home the Brazilian U-17 national championship in 1997. "Carol is very experienced in the game of soccer. She is an excellent addition to our program because she brings us her knowledge of the game and her determination to be the best," said head coach Charlie Mitchell. "I am really excited to be working with the ladies program as well as with Coach Mitchell. He has a good background with soccer and I can tell he wants the best for his teams," said Melo. Melo played collegiate soccer for National American University and was a four year letter winner. She led her team to three national tournaments while at NAU and was named All-Region Honorable Mention four straight years. Along with her achievements on the soccer field, Melo achieved great success in the classroom as well. In May 2002, Melo graduated from NAU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in International Business and Marketing which goes hand in hand with her ability to speak both Portuguese and English very fluently. Melo carried a 3.55 grade point average during her four years at NAU and was consistently named to the President's and Dean's Honor list, along with being named Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 2000-2001. "She is very talented both on and off the field and that is something that she and our women's team have in common. Having someone like that to keep our ladies motivated and inspired is hard to find. I know that our ladies program will benefit greatly with her on our staff," said Mitchell. Melo is working on a master's degree in Business Administration while at NSU.
