Last Friday, July 23rd, Brazilian Football lost one of its
major exponents. At 68 years of age, the competent and consecrated
Trainer José Duarte, or simply "Mr. Zé", for the most acquainted
and the hundredths of players he coached during his 4 decades of
a brilliant career. Zé Duarte coached some of the major football
clubs in Brazil, such as: Santos, Cruzeiro, Atlético Paranaense,
Fluminense, Internacional,(Rio Grande do Sul), Bahia, Guarani and
Ponte Preta. Mr.

where he put together a very competitive team to play for the Paulista
Championship of that season. Zenon, Almeida, Dicá, Polozzi, Careca,
Marco Aurélio, Aílton Lira, Oscar, Carlos, Júlio César, Joăo Paulo
e Sérgio Gomes were some of the athletes whose career's took off
with the magic touch of the renowned trainer. In 1995 , Mr. Duarte
accepted the challenge of coaching the Brazil's Women National Team,
a position which until then had been rejected by several coaches
who feared that their passage through such activity would taint
their professional careers in case of failure. In only 45 days Mr.
Duarte elevated the Brazilian player's style of play and their moral,
conquering the Vice-championship of the Campinas International tournament
with massive goal scores against Ukraine, (7XO) Russia, (4X0), and
a very important tie with the potent number one team of the world,
the United States team. The amazing results accomplished by Mr.
Duarte's national team squad surprised the world and at the 1996
Olympics in Atlanta, Brazil would reach its first Olympic semi-final
in which had been the first version of that sport in the Olympic
games, defeating the very powerful Germany and Japan in the first
leg of the competition. Sissi, Kátia Cilene, Simone Jatobá, Marisa,
Elsi, Maravilha, Juliana Cabral, Tânia Maria, Formiga, Melissa,
Elane, Grazielle, Karen ,Michele, Carol and Emily are some of Brazil's
all stars molded by "Mr. Zé" in his victorious passage by the female
soccer. Mr. Duarte's work took female soccer from amateurism and
made 1997 the golden year for that sport, creating the first professional
league of the Americas, the Paulistana league, a competition which
had all its games nationally televised "live" by open air TV Bandeirantes
and also on cable tv by the channel SportTV. When in command of
the Sao Paulo Futebol Clube the trainer clinched 100% of all the
titles played by the team on that year, taking to "Morumbi", the
Paulistana league title , the Spring tournamente, (Rio-Săo Paulo),
and Brazilian Champioship. Through Saad Female Soccer Club, the
trainer had a fundamental participation in conquering the 1996 version
of the Brazilian Championship and also in the creation of the female's
soccer sub-division categories, a project rewarded with the sub-17
Brazilian Champioship title in 1997. Destiny gave Saad Esporte Clube
the honor of having achieved the last title of a victorious career
of the unforgettable , Zé Duarte, with the conquering of the I Brazil's
Women Soccer Circuit in 2003. Club Executives, Athletes, workers

Mr. Duarte's family, with no amount of words that can express all
the admiration and gratitude by his work ethic , character and example
of such a dignified professional José Duarte leaves us as his main
prerogatives.
